Worms is the first game in a large series of artillery turn-based action games by Team 17. Although the game was originally created by Andy Davidson and was called "Total Wormage"; until he took the game unpublished to the European Computer Trade Show where Team 17 made an offer to develop and publish the game. Worms was originally released for the Amiga in 1995. However as Worms' popularity began to increase the series expanded, and the game was released on other platforms such as Windows and Mac based computers, Sega Mega Drive, Gameboy, Nokia N-Gage, Nintendo 64, Playstation 2, XBLM, and many more platforms not included...

In Worms the player controls a small group/platoon of worms on a destructible environtment. The worms are given access to a variety of weapons from a large arsenal and are set on destroying any opposing worms, whether they be on a computer or player controlled team. Other weapons may be gained access to by collecting random crates and barrels which fall from the sky during the gameplay. Such weapons and items include the famous "Banana Bomb". The graphics and sound effects of the game are very "cartoon like", and map locations can vary from space, to the antartic, and to the pits of "hell" itself. Although normally in the game level designs are randomly generated through the use of an alph-numeric string system. Altogether Worms is a fun strategic game and as stated on Xbox.com, "it's easy to play but difficult to master".
